Yet the current rush to deploy autonomous AI agents without sufficient safeguards and testing protocols deserves scrutiny, not celebration.

Consider what we're actually talking about when we discuss agentic AI. These aren't chatbots that respond to queries. These are systems designed to make decisions, take actions, and operate with minimal human intervention. A drug discovery agent that can run experiments and propose novel compounds is fundamentally different from a language model that predicts the next word. An autonomous system managing business processes is making decisions that affect real outcomes in real time.

The companies moving fastest into this space have a clear rationale. Efficiency gains are real. Cost reductions are measurable. First movers in any technology typically capture outsized value. There's genuine business logic to acceleration.

But here's what concerns me: we're seeing the same trust deficit that prompted recent industry scrutiny now potentially amplified at a more consequential level.
